Going

GLYNDWR “DIGS” IT !

Here are definitions of the words relating to what our Welsh Terriers have done instinctively since the beginning of time:
“Going to ground” is a natural hunt in woods or fields –
Terriers “go” after any creature living underground in a “den.”
A make-believe hunt (where people dig a tunnel to that den) is called a “dig” or officially an “earthdog test.”
At the “dig” at Bardwyn you will learn about your “earthdog” and
your Welsh will know why he was put on earth.
This is an introduction, not an AKC event, so the rules are very flexible.
There are no age limits.
(That applies to the dogs and the people!)
Kids, puppies, senior citizens & elderly dogs are all welcome.
A large area is enclosed by snow-fencing to keep the dogs focused on the trail of fox scent that’s laid on the ground for the dogs to follow right into the den.
The “prey” or “quarry” at the end of the den is –
(no, not a fox!) – a couple of safely caged mice!
One dog at a time is goes into the area and is timed from when it enters the den until it reaches those mice and tries to get ‘em!
The Welsh is then (cautiously) removed through a trap door.
All will be fully explained and questions answered on the day
